You are thinking about entering the digital world, yet:

Welcome to Diogenes! Diogenes is a newly created, London-based small and dedicated digital hub for experimental and underground music labels. We position ourselves as the modest lantern guiding honest and small outsider labels into the complex online music marketplace - as a complementary ring to the music production chain enabling a self-sufficient distribution network.

We will be managing the entire production chain from digitising your cds to transferring them to online stores, and ensuring promotion and marketing for your products to the stores.

All you have to provide us with is:

  • Audio support
  • Metadata information for each product and tracks (or ask Diogenes to do it)
  • Relevant packshot/artwork

Why going digital?

We are aware that the barriers to enter the ‘online’ music world are high and acknowledge most of the CONS labels may express. We nevertheless believe - based on our experience in the industry and our relationships with limited labels - that the main advantages should not be ignored.

The digital distribution channel is a reality and could bring benefits to the entire production/ consumption chain.

Here are some Key points we and labels we work with believe to be convincing:

  • Convenience/immediacy, accessibility/portability: simpler to carry than a CD player
  • Secure way of getting an additional income for labels and artists
  • Compensates lack of physical territorial distribution for local labels
  • Could creatively replace the high cost of re-pressing of an unavailable album.
  • Work on special mastered products with easy, quick and cheap release schedule
  • MP3s are now a proper format: some actually enjoy buying Digital Formats
  • Giving the option to buy the track vs the entire album (on most services)
  • Trivial time/resources to invest: this is all taken in by Diogenes

Steps of the process

You let us know your yearly schedule by sending us in time promos/final album copies for each new release accompanying press quotes and Press Release.

  1. Basic Data Gathering

    Once we have agreed on a timeline, for each release you will need to provide us with:

    • the audio: CD or wavs
    • the corresponding metadata (often your cd sleeve will contain most of these info)

      Album level: title, artists, barcode (if available- otherwise we will get it for you), catalogue number, territory rights for this album, rights owner (phonographic and copyright)

      Track level: title, artists and featured artists, rights owner, ISRC (if available- otherwise we will get it for you)

    • Corresponding artwork and additional booklets or PDF, alternative to your physical packaging and hand crafted record covers and sleeves.

  2. Creation of the digital files

    We liaise with our technical partner for the creation of your digital products. Indeed Diogenes uses the best technical digital service provider for the independent music industry, Consolidated Independent (CI). From that step onwards, we will be managing the entire production chain, tracking the completion of the creation and deliveries of the formats to the online platforms.

  3. Deliveries to our Content Partners

    Your products will be delivered to our already existing Content Partners, always in accordance to your wishes and rights. You can find the list of our Content Partners here.

    Diogenes will also take care of the marketing and promotion of your products with the Content partners. The marketing of your products will also go through our own website.

  4. Reporting and Sales

    We will report back to you on sales on an agreed regular basis.
